VEGA registers growth around the globe

Four branches move into new buildings. Focus on sustainability.

The measurement technology manufacturer VEGA is growing - not only in terms of turnover and employee numbers, but also visibly. The company has moved into four new buildings in recent months. In Great Britain, the USA, South Africa and Spain, the employees now have significantly more space at their disposal.

With this, the specialist for innovative measurement technology with headquarters in Schiltach, where the 1000th employee was welcomed at the beginning of June, continues to invest in its future and attaches great importance to sustainability. At the same time, an environment is to be created for the company’s employees that ”doesn’t feel like just work, but like a second home,” emphasised Isabel Grieshaber, managing partner of VEGA Grieshaber KG, at the opening of the new building in South Africa.

Training possibilities increased

When designing the four branches, VEGA also paid great attention to expanding the training possibilities. The range of seminars and training courses on offer is appreciated and in demand by customers worldwide. ”We are investing in our capabilities so that we can offer our customers even better service,” explained John Groom, Managing Director of VEGA Americas, at the opening of the company complex in Mason (Ohio), which covers more than 21,000 square metres.

All in all, the signs at VEGA worldwide are pointing to growth - literally, but also figuratively. Carlos Montala, Managing Director of VEGA Instrumentos, put it in a nutshell at the inauguration ceremony of the new building in Spain: ”I am confident that together we will continue to grow and offer our customers innovative and reliable solutions”.

Data security free of charge in the VEGA Tools app
New backup & restore solution reliably secures and saves data from VEGA sensors When a level or pressure sensor is taken out of service and replaced, it takes countless important sensor settings and data with it into retirement. However, the settings and measured values are not lost, because a new VEGA software tool saves everything that matters. Smartphones and tablets are now standard equipment in industrial plants. Almost 40 percent of all VEGA sensors for level, point level and pressure are parameterised, read out and serviced via Bluetooth and the VEGA Tools app. To be sure, lots of ”real work” still has to be done on site, but the adjustment of sensors in hazardous zones or hard-to-reach measuring points is made considerably easier with these wireless tools, as it can be performed from a safe distance of up to 50 metres. Wireless is now the standard But even in less demanding ”standard applications”, wireless operation via app is increasingly gaining acceptance. VEGA product manager Philipp Ketterer knows the reasons: ”For

Level sensor VEGAPULS 6X -Security first at VEGA
The VEGAPULS 6X radar sensor is the world’s first level sensor with built-in cyber security features, in compliance with Industrial Cyber Security Standard IEC 62443-4-2. VEGA, the Black Forest manufacturer of level, switching and pressure instrumentation, is on a security mission. In January 2023, it delivered to its customers what is unquestionably the world’s first level sensor with built-in cyber security features. With this new development VEGA wants to send a strong message, namely, that it recognizes the increasing threat of cyber criminality in industry and is taking action to combat it. From the outside, you wouldn’t see anything different or unusual: The VEGAPULS 6X radar sensor, together with its documentation, fits perfectly into its tailor-made carton which, at the end of the packaging line, gets its shipping label. Address: A chemical company in northern Hesse, Germany. But what the customer receives is something quite different from all the other level sensors previously available in the market. For the first time ever, this sensor comes with cyber protection as an integral component. It was developed in compliance

Video: How do sensors contribute to cyber security?
The VEGAPULS 6X radar level sensor has been designed according to the latest IT security standard IEC 62443-4-2. In view of the increasing digitalisation in industry, an extremely important point is effective protection against cyber attacks. In industry, production facilities are becoming more and more interconnected and use digital status retrieval on all devices and systems. This makes them vulnerable in a new way. To fulfil the highest cyber security standards currently available in the process industry, the VEGAPULS 6X radar level sensor has been designed according to the latest IT security standard IEC 62443-4-2. During a walk through the VEGA IT department, Jürgen and Stefan explain what has to be considered already in the development stage in order to create a secure sensor.

Contactless and maintenance-free measurement of bulk solids
Contactless and maintenance-free measurement of bulk solids
The Friedrich Köster GmbH & Co. KG Maschinenfabrik-Eisengießerei in Heide manufactures castings of iron, steel and non-ferrous metals, sometimes in small batches, sometimes as individual castings of various sizes. The foundry sand required for this is transported, still hot, to large silos after use. Here it is stored and cooled until it is needed again for further processing steps. In order to reliably measure the level in the silos and thus their total content, reliable level measurement is required. Until now, guided radar sensors were used for this purpose. These old sensors, however, intermittently failed to transmit the measurement signals: Due to the very long cable probes, they had difficulties measuring in the sand and sometimes even stopped working completely. The necessary repairs could only be carried out when the silos were empty. This was not only inconvenient, it also caused delays in the production process again and again. VEGAPULS 31 radar sensors
