CEO Dr. Andreas Bastin talking to Masterflex employees about Hero@Zero

Circular economy transformation of Masterflex SE

The trade magazine TH spoke to Masterflex Group CEO Andreas Bastin about the initiated circular economy transformation of Masterflex SE
At the end of June, the Chairman of the Board of the Masterflex Group, Dr. Andreas Bastin, and the Managing Director of REMONDIS Recycling GmbH & Co. KG, Jürgen Ephan, signed a cooperation agreement between the two companies.
The aim was to set up an environmental service branch for industrial products made from technical plastics and to implement this in the market for hose and connecting systems. ”There is no doubt that we are still at the very beginning of our journey towards a closed-loop system for industrial products made of high-tech plastics.
As the Masterflex Group, we have decided to consistently follow this path. To this end, we recently launched our ”Hero@Zero” strategic program. In the future, we will offer our customers the right hose not only from a technological and economic point of view, but also in terms of sustainability. This is how Andreas Bastin describes the start of the strategic cooperation. In a detailed interview between the renowned trade magazine ”Technischer Handel” and Dr. Andreas Bastin, you can now gain exciting insights into the background and implementation plans of this ambitious Masterflex project.

Meanwhile, the concept and vision for a circular economy for plastic hoses by 2035 are in place. In addition to teamwork, Masterflex is focusing on clear identification of the hoses and developing solutions to make the materials used recyclable.
Dr. Bastin said: ”The most important basic requirement is that the hoses are clearly identifiable - and we can ensure that. For about three and a half years, we have been using the Ampius NFC chip in all the tubing systems we sell, i.e. tubing plus connector technology. This allows us to clearly identify and track the life cycle of our hoses.
Dr. Andreas Bastin also emphasized that the Hero@Zero project will be a step-by-step transformation process. Masterflex is starting with industrial products, in particular extruded hoses made of various plastics, and is now working on optimizing the logistical recycling process.

Masterflex and REMONDIS enter into cooperation
Strategic cooperation to open the way for high-performance plastics in the circular economy. Masterflex SE from Gelsenkirchen and REMONDIS Recycling GmbH & Co. KG from Essen have entered into a long-term cooperation: The aim is to set up a circular-flow economy for industrial products made of engineering plastics and to implement it in the market for hose and connection systems as an example. Hoses and connection systems made from high-performance plastics are used today to solve innovative applications in almost all areas of industrial and private life. Masterflex Group is the world’s leading producer, in this field. For example, when it comes to ensuring state of the art microchip production or enabling safe, compliant, and efficient food production, Masterflex’s hose systems contribute either directly or indirectly to the solution. But what happens after using these products? Today the used hoses and connection systems are typically disposed of properly, for example, by the European market leader, the REMONDIS Group. REMONDIS is one of the world’s
