inprotec was found in 1999 at the headquarters in Heitersheim. Today, the company engages around 260 employees at two sites (Heitersheim and Genthin) in Germany. The total capacity is over 150,000tons per year (8 production lines thereof 7 fluidized bed spray granulators and 1 classical spray drier).

The customized granules and powders are developed and toll manufactured by using the fluidized-spray granulation technology and classical spray drying technology. The technologies are the basis for a multiplicity of process in the field of drying and particle forming like spray granulation, spray drying, spray chilling, spray agglomeration, fluid-bed drying, coating and matrix encapsulation. During this there is a combined treatment of solid components (powders, granules and bulk goods) and/ or liquids (aqueous solution, suspension, emulsions and melts) in one and more component system.

As a competent and trustful partner with long experience in different industry sectors, we offer a full integrated tolling service from development in lab scale (0.1kg – 5kg) through scale-up trials in pilot scale (0.02tons - 5tons) to industrial production (20tons – 10,000 tons per campaign).

The main industry sectors are washing and detergent industry, animal feed additives, building additives, cosmetic additives and specialities.

Products, services
Toll manufacturing - With the aid of the spray drying and fluidized bed technologies, we are able to find the right solution for every powder and granulate.
Spray granulation - Granulation by means of fluidized bed technology ensures free-flowing granulates with specifically influenceable product properties.
Spray drying - Spray drying is the classic thermal method for continuously drying liquids gently even in large quantities.
Fluidized bed drying - Fluidized bed drying is the ideal process for controlled, gentle drying of moist powders, filter cakes and granulates with a high residual moisture.
Coating - In the coating process, a coating is applied to particle surfaces to envelop and protect sensitive substances.
Matrix Encapsulation - The matrix encapsulation is the ideal process for encapsulating valuable substances such as oils or active components in a suitable material.
Spray Agglomeration - Dusty, sticky and lumpy powders are suitable for transformation into free-flowing agglomerates in the fluidized bed

Wet agglomeration as alternative to spray agglomeration
In certain cases wet agglomeration combined with fluidised bed drying offers an energy-efficient alternative to spray and fluidised bed processes. In particle agglomeration, spray and fluidised bed processes are common, but in certain cases wet agglomeration combined with fluidised bed drying offers an energy-efficient alternative. Water evaporation, an energy-intensive process, plays a central role in many process technologies. Therefore, it is essential to optimise the energy consumption in drying processes. Among other things, the production of granulates such as detergents, instant powders, animal feed or building materials is often done by spray drying or fluidised bed processes. These processes are versatile, allowing mixing, drying, granulation, coating and agglomeration of particles to produce high-quality products. However, they are energy-intensive as large amounts of water have to be evaporated, which requires high amounts of heat. inprotec operates plants for these processes and offers an alternative to spray agglomeration: the wet agglomerator. This features several advantages, including the

Special particle design for iron slurry/air energy storage
inprotec, as a project partner within the FeEnCap project, uses fluidized bed and spray drying systems to coat iron oxide particles with carbonizable resin FeEnCap is an innovative research project in partnership with leading companies aiming to develop a powerful, environmentally friendly and cost-effective alternative to conventional batteries. At the heart of this promising project is the use of advanced core/shell particles that aim to improve the performance and rechargeability of iron slurry storage batteries, particularly in terms of rechargeability. Financially supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) within the joint project FeEnergy, this storage presents an impressive perspective for high capacity stationary energy storage. inprotec, as a project partner within the FeEnCap project, uses fluidized bed and spray drying systems to coat iron oxide particles with carbonizable resin. The resins are selected after careful consideration of process requirements, environmental compatibility and industrial feasibility. To ensure that the thickness and uniformity of the coating meet

Inprotec AG: Specialist for drying, shaping, coating
Our business is contract drying and contract manufacturing using spray drying and fluidised bed technology, we find the right solution for every requirement. Even before the market launch of products, we use our expertise to quickly find solutions. Using spray drying and fluidised bed technology we find the right solution for your drying needs. We also use our expertise to find solutions before market launch of your products. Contract drying and contract manufacturing inprotec AG relies on two different technologies to fulfil all our customers’ requirements as a contract dryer and contract manufacturer: spray drying and fluid bed technology. * Spray drying technology*NEWLINE*In classic spray drying, solutions, suspensions or emulsions are processed into fine-grained, free-flowing powders. The respective product is first finely atomised at the top of the spray tower. The resulting spray mist is dried by the hot air stream within seconds during free fall (convection). * Fluidised bed technology*NEWLINE*When fluidised bed technology is used, a gas medium flows through the feedstock and raw materials. This flow puts the particles into a fluidised state - they mix with the medium. The result is a flowable,

inprotec AG partners with ICIG for further growth
Paragon Partners (Paragon) and its minority coshareholders sell 100% in inprotec AG to International Chemical Investors Group (ICIG). The transaction is subject to customary antitrust clearance and expected to close in November. Paragon acquired a majority stake in the business in 2018 and has since invested more than €20 million into expanding production facilities. Over the course of the last four years, inprotec has further strengthened its leading market position as technology leader for complex large-scale granulation/drying processes, broadened its customer base, and profitably grew with a high doubledigit CAGR p.a. With ICIG as future partner, inprotec and its current management will continue the successful growth story by leveraging inprotec’s existing strengths under new corporate ownership within the ICIG network. “We are proud to see how inprotec has evolved over the course of our ownership period and how the company has significantly grown despite a turbulent market environment.”, states Christian Bettinger, Partner at Paragon. “We would like to thank Dr. Andreas Baranyai and Pierre Schwerdtfeger, both former managing shareholders, for their trust in partnering with

With the new drying plant, capacities at the Genthin production site in Saxony-Anhalt will increase by around 40 percent. For more than 20 years, inprotec AG has been regarded as an ideal partner by well-known global corporations from various industries - and by smaller clients as well. The company from Heitersheim in Baden-Württemberg is a contract manufacturer specialising in the drying and shaping of granulates and powders; it works for manufacturers of detergents and cleaning agents, animal feed and plastic additives, building materials and fine chemicals. With its reliability and individual service, the medium-sized company has established itself as the market leader in contract drying throughout Europe. Since 2019, inprotec has been resolutely gearing up for the future with a new management team and a strong investor. In the next few months, the company will take another big step and expand its total capacity by around 40 per cent. For this purpose, an additional fluidised bed system will be installed at the plant in Saxony-Anhalt; in future, around 40,000 tonnes of material

The Handover at inprotec AG
In the twenty-first year of the company’s existence, the management of inprotec AG, one of the leading service providers in spray granulation and spray drying, will be undergoing change. The company has two locations in Heitersheim (Baden-Württemberg) and Genthin (Saxony-Anhalt). After the investment company, Paragon Partners from Munich, has already acquired the majority share of inprotec AG in summer 2018 in order to support the further development of the company, Dr. Steve Döring will take over the management of the company as Managing Director as of October 2019. He will replace Dr. Andreas Baranyai, one of the company’s founders, who successfully managed the company for more than 20 years, and who will leave the company at the end of the year. He will, however, continue to be available to the company as a technical consultant. We would like to thank Dr. Baranyai not only for the excellent collaboration over the past decades, but also for his entrepreneurial
