Developing decentralised solutions – Generate power from ind
Developing decentralised solutions – Generate power from ind
With advancing changes in the energy sector, interest in decentralised, variable power generators is growing. The use of waste heat from industrial processes can significantly contribute to increased energy efficiency and the generation of low carbon power. The Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) takes a technological approach to the conversion of waste heat into power. For over 7 years, a Northern Bavarian consortium, consisting of the University of Bayreuth, OTH Amberg-Weiden Technical College and the company DEPRAG, have been successfully developing ORC systems, specifically, micro expansion turbines in low power ranges of under 50 kW (electric). The recovery of unused energy, such as the heat in exhaust gases from combustion engines or gas turbines or even the waste heat from industrial processes, is a promising strategy to address the challenge to increase energy efficiency. The existing technical solutions, such as downstream steam power processes or turbines as expanders

Theme ”The recent advances in the drying, sorting and packaging of sugar”. On 14 February 2019, a full-day seminar on the topic ”The recent advances in sugar drying, sorting and packaging” was held in Dehradun, India. RHEWUM GmbH & its subsidiary RHEWUM India Pvt. Ltd. gave presentations on technologies for sifting sugar and were able to demonstrate the technology directly on site with a mobile RHEWUM WA(U) sifting machine. Sugar sorting plays an important role in determining sugar quality in relation to grain size and can lead to a better price on the market with uniform grain sizes. For bulk consumers, the dry mixing of sugar is energy efficient compared to the wet process. The constant sugar grain size is very important for the dry mixing process. Efficient sorting also optimizes product performance and seed recycling. In times of constantly rising production costs and strict environmental and food safety standards, the optimization of sugar plants with clean and efficient processes is an important factor for remaining profitable.

Vortex Multi-Port Diverter Assists with Pasta Production
In 2017, a pasta company consulted Vortex to consider improvements to their flour transfer The Process Various grades of flour are pneumatically conveyed and diverted from a main supply line into eight silos. Each of the eight silos feed separate production lines, with each line producing a different type of pasta. The client used a manual hose switching station to route materials from the main supply line into each silo individually. The manual hose switching station presented many disadvantages, including: Labor-intensive – Because it was a manual switching process, an operator had to physically decouple, reposition and recouple the flexible hose. Further complicating this process, the operator had to climb and shuffle across a narrow catwalk each time the hose was repositioned. Safety – A ratcheting tool was used to move the hose through a horizontal plane. Because the tool is used as a hand-operated winch, tension between moving parts can cause the mechanisms to fail – which is an operator safety concern. Profitability – As

YARA relies on individualized RHEWUM technology
YARA in Rostock is now screening calcium ammonium nitrate with RHEWUM screening machines. Calcium ammonium nitrate (CAN) is a popular nitrogen fertilizer in agriculture for plant nutrition. Due to the difficult screening characteristics of CAN, YARA in Rostock has again opted for RHEWUM technology to expand its capacity. When increasing the capacity, our customer duplicated the existing screening line. In addition to the increase of capacity, this also results in increased availability. The new screens were modernized and modified together with the customer along with his accumulated experience and are thereby optimally adapted to the plant, which achieves a flow rate of up to 350 t/h. The construction of the plant will be realized in two stages. In the first stage, RHEWUM DF course screens with downstream RHEWUM RIUS are used (screen cut 5.0 mm). RHEWUM WA fine screens (screen cut 3.2 mm) remove the fine dust in the second stage. Several special features of the machines were taken into account during the implementation of the project. Due to the abrasive

Determination of Particle Shape with Dynamic Image Analysis
Determination of Particle Shape with Dynamic Image Analysis
To qualitatively describe the shape of particles, the observer is often content with a mere visual inspection, in the case of fine samples probably with the aid of a microscope. Characterizations like ”needle-shaped crystals”, ”compact granulate”, ”splintered grain”, or ”rounded sand” are quickly made and bring a corresponding picture to the mind of every reader. These descriptions are insufficient, however, when it comes to evaluating the suitability of a material for a specific application. If, for example, sand is intended to be used as a building material, the grains must not be too round. In this case, it is important to precisely quantify this roundness to reliably determine the suitability of the raw material. This is where quantitative particle shape analysis comes into play.

Gericke says Thank you for 125 years of customer’s trust
From humble beginnings in the year 1894, the company Gericke evolved into a globally positioned and successful provider full of solutions in the bulk goods industry. This is reason enough to take a look at the Swiss family business‘ history. 1894 in the heart of Zürich Ing. Walter H. Gericke founded his machine and mill building factory. He attained quickly an excellent reputation as a specialist and as a reliable supplier of modern, partly already automated, milling plants. He sold roller mills from the prestigious company Seck from Dresden. Other important process steps involved particularly corn cleaning, storageing, conveying, sifting and mixing grains and flours. The vast array of machines was already widely-ranged. At the beginning of the 20th century Gericke constructed its first vertical mixers and celebrated a major success with the patented „Soder-mills“, which resulted a higher yield. Innovation was in the foreground in the 40’s with the construction
